Meet Nan and Dave

Dave and Nan Charland are the owners and innkeepers of The Laurel Oak Inn Bed and Breakfast. Dave has his doctorate in Physical Therapy and works for the Veterans Affairs Hospital in the Physical Medicine and Rehab Department. Nan was a Regional Human Resources Director for a large senior living company for 17 years. Dave grew up on the East Coast of Rhode Island and is the youngest of 8 brothers and sisters. Nan was raised in Fairhope, Alabama and is the oldest of 3. Some of our favorite pastimes are watching SEC (college) football, in particular, the Ole Miss Rebels, Nan’s alma mater, and Dave is particularly fond of the New England Patriots. We love entertaining and traveling, so what better way to embrace our passions than to open our home to others? As the innkeepers, we believe we are a perfect blend of southern hospitality with an east coast flair.

Although we love dogs and cats, the Laurel Oak Inn is not indoor pet friendly. When making this very hard decision we had to consider those with allergies, as we would never want to disrupt someone’s stay at the Inn. The Laurel Oak Inn has a new furry friend, Bodie. Bodie is a Cockapoo, his mother was a standard Poodle, and his father was a Cocker Spaniel. Bodie is hypoallergenic. He was born in January 2022 and is all puppy, so be prepared. Bodie may jump on you, it’s all love and he knows better, he’s just trying to test our patience. We have only had Bodie since October 2022, so we are grooming him to be a wonderful addition to the Laurel Oak Inn. Needless to say, balls are his favorite toys! We can’t wait to see him grow into our smart, loving, crazy, and best friend. However, you may see two outdoor cats at the Inn: Hatter, who adopted us when we moved in, which we love. You will find him sleeping on the porch or on the porch rail waiting patiently for his morning or afternoon treat. And Gibbs, who found us, and we have done our best to teach him everything we know about being a cat. He is a true scaredy-cat, so don’t be surprised if he doesn’t let you pet him at first but when he warms up to you, he’ll let you rub his belly.

We hope the Laurel Oak Inn provides a lifetime of memories and experiences for each of our guests. It is our pleasure to have you stay with us. We look forward to meeting you soon! Safe journeys until you arrive.
